I've admitted before, I'm slow to adopt new trends. Don't judge me. I think that's ok and pretty normal for most busy mums on a budget. So over the past few months, all my blogging buddies have done some sort of post about boyfriend jeans, Kat, Sue, Marlene, Trea, Helen & Iva. And as we are all part of a blogging forum where we discuss such important fashion matters of life and death, these girls have been supplying me with links to the sort of boyfriend jeans that we concluded might suit me best.
It was decided because I have a more formal, structured style of dress, a darker, non slouchy pair with very little in the way of rips or tears would be best for me. Lots of links later, these ones arrived with Arty the postman (endlessly bemused at the constant stream of parcels I receive)
These Gap Boyfriend Jeans are currently on sale for £15.99. Seriously bargainous. Only in a size US4 (UK 8) but here's the thing - they fit me!! If that's not reason enough to keep something, I'm not sure what is. If I could leave the size visible on them somewhere, I would as I have never fitted a size 8 pair of jeans - EVER!
If you're muttering the obvious - 'clearly they are a big fit..'...ok ok...I KNOW that. But it's not the point. They have 8 on the label...
Of course, I had to immediately report back to the blogging girls with photos showing what they looked like on. So brace yourself for a few things. White ankles, minging stain-covering spare room rug and a tiny mirror. First up, here they are with pumps. Most definitely my favourite look:
Next up, I tried them with black and brown ankle boots. Not keen on the brown boots but will probably wear occasionally with these Zara black wedge boots:
Lastly, a look that I've seen so many other bloggers and fashionistas wear - with a stiletto heel. I remain undecided. I'll try them with tanned ankles and a sharp blazer and share with you again...
Overall, these are the best BF jeans I've tried on (and I've tried on a good few lately). Furthermore, at that price, I'm not going to moan if I only wear them with pumps during the summer. A nice change from skinnies. But I promise to wear them to Belfast Fashion Week next week with the heels and a blazer and you can tell me what you think.
Speaking of fashion shows, I'm off later to the Action Mental Health Style At Stormont show. Excited to be catching up with some friends & support this great charity. I'll report back on here as soon as I can though if you follow me on Instagram, you'll see my outfit first! But for now, here's a sneak peek at my new dress...Fruit Shoot 4 pack and all! That's how mammies shop :)
Do tell me what you think of the whole boyfriend jeans thing...love reading your comments. I get an email every time one appears on the blog and they are honestly the best cheering up emails EVER!
Hi Avril! I have also got the Gap boyfriend jeans in a size 8-snap!! I think Gap run slightly big to size as I am a 10-12 and they are quite slouchy on! I love them and think they look great on you, definitely worth having for the forthcoming seasons to come!! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon, can't wait for the weather to warm up now! Ax
DeleteAvril you MUST keep those jeans. They suit you, emphasise your lovely legs and look so modern ESP with the beige boots (and ballet flats for summer).......keep! Keep! Keep! I love them!
ReplyDeleteWell, ok then...if I must! Ax
DeleteHi avril!! I think that you and I share the same sizes....nor only did I size up in the heatons geo cropped trousers...but last. summer i went shopping for khaki chinos in gap.....size 8!!!! My favourite trousers!!.Hope you have a ball tonight !! enjoyxx Helen cork
ReplyDeleteSounds like the case Helen...wish I had a few more inches on my legs like you though! Ax
DeleteWooohoooo!! Finally!! These slimmer boyfriend cut suits you to a T. Me likey. Lololol! Yes, the fact that it's a size 8 is flattering enough to keep them. Mind you, you're so slim so definitely a size 8 anyway.
ReplyDeleteYes - I did it! Thank you for all the inspiration, Ax
DeleteLooking fab .. seriously fab! Love them with the pumps, serious potential with the heels .. and OMG, isn't it amazing what a difference the black ankle boots make? They just work better for some reason. I tell ya' ... your boyfriend jean journey has been a long one, but you've definitely hit gold with these :) Helen
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen for sharing every moment with me! lol Ax
DeleteLove these on you Avril, knew u would succumb you just had to find the right pair for you. Looking forward to,seeing how u style them. I love them with heels, but it would need to get a bit warmer!
ReplyDeleteThanks Trea x
DeleteWay to go girl - you got there! And they look lovely on you. I knew there was a pair out there for you somewhere - it was just finding them. I love them with the high heels and can't wait to see you dressed up in them with a blazer. And they are mega comfy aren't they?
ReplyDeleteLove finding them at a discount price too! Result!! And yes, they are SO comfy, Ax
DeleteThat's it, I'm off to put in a Gap order Avril - all your fault....!x
ReplyDeleteSorry!! NOT! Their stuff is lovely atm, Ax
DeleteThese look great. They're a nice cut and I like them with the heels!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Ax
DeleteThey look fab on you but my legs are too short for bf jeans.
ReplyDeleteI thought that too Jane - I think it's all about getting the length right so the proportions aren't thrown off, Ax
DeleteYou look SO slim in those!! I prefer a slightly looser fit but am with you on the colour and minimal distressing... I had a lovely Oasis pair that my son forced his fist through the minimal distressing in (when he was 2) and now look ridiculous, so am on the hunt for newbies! :)
ReplyDeleteNic x
Thank you Nic - you will be too tall for these Gap ones but I'm sure you're following Kat's quest for new ones with interest! Ax
DeleteThey look great on you, and I love them with the heels!
ReplyDeleteClaire x
Thank you hun, Ax
DeleteI want new jeans so bad and kept seeing Iva wear Gap jeans. I know she's tall like me so I'll def go for a nosey! Maybe I'll get into a 12 instead of a 14 hehe. Look cool on you, different look x
ReplyDeleteThanks GL, Ax
DeleteI prefer a BF jean with flat strappy sandals or flip flops in summer although admire them on others with heels. I had already looked at these online and would have bought at that price but as you say, no sizes left, so pleased you fitted into them it would have been a killer to send them back xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon - I can't wait to get the sandals out...how long more....sigh! Ax
DeleteI am more of a structured jean girl I think so if I go for boyfriend style it is usually straight leg jeans rolled up!! I also stick to the summer with converse or sandals too - my legs are just too white! These look great on you Avril - you have the legs for them!! :) X
ReplyDeleteThanks - they are not for everyone. You definitely have to find the right style for you and the right footwear to suit your leg length. Ax
DeleteThey look great on you. You've got to love Gap sizing haven't you. Great sale on at mo. I've just bought 2 pairs of skinny jeans. Burnt orange and red. £9.99 each. As my mum would say "where would you be going"!!
ReplyDeleteWow - great price and sound lovely! Ax
DeletePerhaps I;m on my own here but i think they look awful! SOrry -maybe its the camera angle? But they make you look dumpy -and you obviously aren't
ReplyDeleteNever worry - they are not going to be to everyone's style. Maybe when you see me wearing them in a few different ways over the coming months, you'll love them too! Ax
DeleteSpot on with this write-up, I really believe that this amazing site needs much more attention.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably be returning to read through more, thanks for the information!
