A post around kidswear today. As part of my regular work with M&S, I'm looking at school uniform because how many of us have kids who've grown out of their uniform only 4 months into the school year?! This blog post is here to remind you that M&S keep all of their uniform in stock ALL year round, including in store in the bigger outlets - such a help for busy parents, or for those of us who didn't need to buy all new stuff in September but do now because of the growth.
When it came to my son, he is almost 16, 6 foot tall and fussy as anything with his school trousers. Yet, didn't want to come shopping with me because that's boring. Give. Me. Patience.
Since he started in big school, I've paid more for the school shop trousers as he is so fussy and said they were the only ones he liked but he complained about the last pair he got and then managed to break the zip in them and they're too expensive for that carry on.
So when I realised that M&S do a senior boy's range up to an age 18, and they're £11 less expensive than the school uniform shop, I thought I'd give them a try. Obviously, with easy returns, I was able to buy a few different sizes and styles for him to try and in the end, his favourite were the age 15-16 Senior Boys Slim Leg Regular Fit Trousers.
Honestly, do go check out the range on this link as there is incredible choice available from plus fit, slim fit, skinny leg and super skinny leg. I don't think you'll struggle to find a pair just right for your child.
Two weeks in and they've been washed and tumble dried a few times and it seems that they are really hard wearing. Plus no complaints about the fabric or the fit from him. Win/Win at that price especially given the rate he's growing.
When it comes to the girls, I have one twin who's growing faster than her sister. She's 5'2" already at age 11! So her skirts from are now looking short and feeling tight. Given she's for big school in September and we've no idea what her uniform will be yet, I went for the 2 pack crease resistant pleated skirts in age 12-13. This means I have a spare one in the meantime but when her sister catches up, she'll have one too. These skirts are the same ones I had from about a year ago in the 11-12 size and they've washed and worn so well. The creases are still sharp and they're super easy to iron.
M&S is also great if you find shoes start to squeeze mid school year. These wee pumps are a great fill in pair to get you to the end of term...
The other thing we've stocked up with are these tights. They're now the only tights the girls will wear - no more lovely cotton mix grey tights in this house but the bonus is that they can wear them at the weekends with dresses and shorts. A small thing (and I think it's in these little details where M&S comes up trumps), the size is printed in the waistband. This is such a help to me when doing the laundry as with two girls in the house over 5 foot, there's not much difference between my opaque tights and theirs!
Shirts next and these are the ones I get twice every school year. So easy to iron and they keep their whiteness quite well.
Finally, don't forget that there's a good range of back packs and lunch bags for when things go missing (or is this just us?!) and there are plenty of coats in stock too - including this one that the twins picked as their favourite...really well priced at £24.
Also before I finish, I wanted to let you know, in case you didn't already, that M&S stock an Adaptive uniform collection as part of it's wider Easy Dressing range for babies through to teenagers. These ranges are specially designed for children with sensory issues or those who just need a little extra help when dressing so for instance, fiddly zips & buttons and itchy internal labels are all removed.
