For the first of my M&S posts this year, I'm looking at their new Goodmove range. Described as "an energetic and uplifting activewear edit", Goodmove includes sports leggings in five new styles designed for different activities, sports bras and what M&S describe as “24/7 trainers” and jackets for the high street.
Before I went in to try on, I did a bit of research online about the range as I was keen to see how it's being perceived by retail experts. It's fair to say that the reaction is mixed. Some feel it's not going to work for the older demographic who love to shop in M&S. However, the active wear sector is set to continue its growth for the next 3 or 4 years so overall, it's seen as a good move by the brand to tap into this opportunity.
From seeing the pieces at first hand. It's definitely a younger range and I can see that they're trying to attract millennial customers. The big question is will that demographic want to pay the prices at M&S or are they too sports brand focussed?
For me and probably lots of other 40-something shoppers, I'm happy to pay a little more for quality products while not paying over the top for a ubiquitous brand so I was all over this range when I went to try on. Here are some of my favourite pieces. Affiliate links have been used for all items - this is so M&S can track any click throughs back to me. Starting with what ended up being my favourite item of the try on - these black compression leggings. I bought them and I've had them on ever since - worth every penny. Best Buy....I can't praise them enough. I've not washed them yet - mingarama I know but I'll report back when I do.
The double layer vest is a winner too and came home with me also.
What I liked most about the range is that it's well co-ordinated with lots of mix and match pieces like this lime sweatshirt...
and this classic grey hoodie which is also long line. A big plus for those of us looking bum coverage when wearing sports leggings.
The technical rain coat was the piece I was most excited about though - it comes in camel and black and it has the look and feel of a much more expensive Danish brand, with lots of the technology too like taped seams. It comes up big - size down.
Couldn't get enough of the hoodies - this one was particularly nice as it has split seams and a slightly higher neckline.

Another nice combo here with the lime green, it's a fab pair of animal inspired leggings in khaki green, a lime green mesh cotton knit and the reversible bomber from the collection, also available in the pink colour way.
The trainers have an interesting back story as they have been developed by a team headed up by an ex-Nike designer. The uppers are knitted from Tencel™, a sustainably sourced fibre with natural antibacterial properties. I found them to come up big and wide though so they might be something you'd want to order a couple of sizes in, or go instore to try. In terms of performance, you're not going to want to wear these trainers for running or contact sports. They're very much for light gym training.
Overall impressions of the range is good - the trainers are probably the bit that I wasn't mad about. Everything else is amazing. Especially those leggings...did I mention that??! If like me, you tend to have days where you put on gym gear for a class but end up staying in it because you're running from one thing to another all day, this range is definitely for you. It's also great if you don't like bold logos or details on your gym gear. I like it simple as.
While I had the changing room, I tried on a few of the new SS20 arrivals. LOVING the colours coming through, lots of greens and pinks. Starting with this leaf print midi dress from Per Una

This navy one is again a similar style but perhaps a better colour for this cooler time of year. Would work well with ankle boots and tights
But this polka dot one for me was my favourite

Size up in both - and beware of the cream being a bit see through. I'd have needed a slip under mine, hence I'm not showing you the pic of me wearing!
This green coat has been in-store since before Christmas...
the shade of green is stunning and I love how it co-ordinares with these new trainers with their green details.
Mindful of our weather, there are a few beautiful knits in the Per Una range which I tried on with the Per Una skinny jeans - good and highwaisted

This wee blazer is a great piece too in a lovely shade of dark green with ruched sleeves.

And this pink one from Autograph is a beauty and comes with co-ordinated pieces to make up a suit. Oh and notice the shoes? All hail the granny pump - back in a range of colours for SS20!

Finishing with the most fabulous pop of colour in this Autograph cardigan - perfect for nailing the 'buttoned up cardi, half tucked into your jeans' look that so many stylish people are rocking. I can appreciate this look now and feel like I need a few shorter cardigans in my wardrobe!
