Boden Long Line Breton & Lille Flats

I had a Boden delivery on Thursday which contained my first purchase from new season stock - the Boden Long Line Breton. I was keen to order this to see how it compares to the regular breton, which I've always found too short.

Before trying on, I measured it against my old breton which is the regular length. As you can see, there's a significant difference in length.
And here it is tried on.
For info, I'm wearing the 12. It's a little snug but not clingy & I've put on a few lb's over the summer that I'll be targeting in the gym over the next few weeks!

Verdict is that it's possibly a *tiny* bit too long and that perhaps the idea was for it to be worn as a proper bum-coverer, rather than it being designed with long bodies girls in mind. Boden need to just set the regular breton about half way between the current one and this long line one and I think it would keep a greater number of customers happy.

But for me, I like the length and I'm keeping it. Quality-wise, it's the same as the regular breton...not as thick as the Joules version and it does feel a bit light to me as I've been wearing the Joules ones over the summer lots. But with 20% diminishing discount this week on this link, it's well priced.

And it's confession time....for some reason I can't explain (although Donna's photos at the bottom of this post might have influenced me) I ordered the Boden Lille flat in navy, for the third time (different size & colour this time)
and for the third time, I'm sending them back...this colour or size is no better. I have to console myself with the fact that they are just not made for my feet - they're cut low & show too much (toe) cleavage.
The Alice flat is a far better fit across the widest part of my foot. They're a beautiful shoe though and a real blogger favourite. Sob. But I may have found a more accommodating (non black) Lille style flat shoe elsewhere...blog to follow!!

Finishing with what I wore last week. Busy with back to school so I've been focusing on the kids & on getting the routine up and running again...hence no blogs for so long. Wednesday & Thursday I wore gym gear (tho only went to the gym on Wednesday) This was Friday's outfit:
Trench Coat/Mac - Lorraine Kelly @ JD Williams (currently £22 in the sale with 20% off for new customers)
Generous sizing - this is a 10.
Jeans - Gap Outlet
Black Patent Brogues - Aldo sale (not available online)

And on Saturday for a day of big school rugby & hockey training and what seemed like never ending laundry...comfort all the way
Black Forever Stretch Leggings (not leggings really...jeans!) - Gap Outlet
Denim Shirt - White Company (past season - similar here)
Trainers - Nike Outlet (similar on sale here)
Leopard Scarf - Ancient eBay purchase (remember the Mumsnet scarf??!)

We're in week two of school now and the homework is rolling in. Hope you've had a good Monday and best of luck to those of you with little ones starting back this week.

  1. Oh I love creamy look Avril - so simple and yet so effective. Also love the scarf in the second pic. I got one from H&M a couple of years ago and I love it.
What a shame the shoes don't work. I'm laughing at your third time of ordering!

    1. Haha - don't we all love hiding the derriere though it's arguable whether it looks better in horizontal stripes!?! x

    1. Thanks Donna - I'm persistent if nothing else. Haven't bought the ones I will go for yet - doing my 'wait a few days and work out how many outfits I'd get out of them' approach...which means they'll be sold out when I go back! x

  4. Boden's lillie flats I found to be very uncomfortable, I know quite a few bloggers have sang there praises, but I was left with quite a few blisters with them, so you ant missing much there Avril in my opinion. x

    1. That's interesting Annemarie - thanks for your feedback. I think they're so dependent on foot shape and sizing too - I am more of a 39.5 in Boden shoes but not all of them come in the half size. Ax

  6. I've gone off the Boden Bretons and have adopted the Joules Mariners tops instead. There is 20% off Joules from Thursday (code ENJOY) so I'm going to treat myself to a new one!

    1. I have the Joules ones too and while I like them, I do love the softness and stretchiness of the Boden ones....I find they each work with different jackets/styles of jeans etc. The Boden one works well under lighter jackets for instance but my Joules one works better with skinny jeans :)
Can never have too many stripe tops eh?! And thanks for the code too Suzanne!! xx

  9. Hi Avril, have just recently discovered your blog on my hunt to become more stylish & make more considered clothing purchases! I have to say I really agree about the length on the Boden breton tops. I find that they are fine when new, but after a few washes they shrink to that "just too short" length that doesn't look so nice. I have to confess though that the Lille flats are lovely - I quite like the toe cleavage look though, although not so practical for autumnal days!
Looking forward to reading more of your excellent blog in the coming weeks & months.

    1. Hi Charlotte and thank you for your lovely comment - it's great that you've found the blog. So yes...I have found the same with the regular length breton and perhaps my comparison is not quite fair as I'm sure the regular one was a little longer when it arrived. Will measure again when I've washed the longer line one a few times!
I'm hoping I don't have second thoughts on the lille's but yes...autumn and ankle boots beckon. Avril x

  10. I'm wearing that Boden breton today - mine is from a couple of years ago, actually could be 3 or 4 years (cringe) - and am very drawn to the long line version as I find this one way too short and the arms are practically 3/4 length. May order that one, though if the Joules version is thicker... hmm

    1. It's a real wardrobe staple isn't it? You could always come try mine on for size...either before or at my Boden party on the 1st October! x

  11. I think I might try that longline Breton. I'm quite long in the body, and I'm not a fan of a chilly gap between jeans and top!! xx
