Army Chic

Having seen a few other (younger) bloggers featuring the Primark pleather sleeved combat jacket, I decided to see if it could work for the school run..
Jacket - Primark £25
Jeans - H&M
Boots - River Island
Top - Zara
I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the quality of this coat..the pleather is very realistic and there is a nice bit of detail around the pockets. Also, for Primark, the fit is good (I'm wearing a size 12) so overall, having seen other more expensive versions in the shops lately, this is a great budget alternative.
However, I think it's a limiting coat..apart from jeans and a white or black t-shirt, there's not alot else in my wardrobe that works well with it. I spent some time with the Personal Stylist at Victoria Square in Belfast last week and she agreed with me. Because of the detailing and the two different colours going on, anything with detail underneath looks too fussy on me.
I loved doing this blog post and felt quite rock-chick for a change but other more versatile pieces are calling to me and the budget has run out (no surprise there) so this one's going back. However, if anyone has been on the lookout for this jacket (sold out in some stores), I'm happy to sell it for its RRP plus postage. Just PM me at schoolgatestyle@yahoo.co.uk
OR....have you bought one of these already? Share with me what you've worn it with...maybe you can change my mind...

  1. I saw that jacket yesterday when I "nipped" out to do some erm "food" shopping. I had to have a nosey close up as it's popular style in Topshop and Zara and the pleather isn't bad actually. It is a limiting style in what you team it with but I think I would wear with black jeans perhaps? But it's nice to see you rock out.

  2. Oh Avril I think it's really cute on you! I saw a girl in M&S wearing this jacket (or one of its lookalike friends) the other day and thought 'Here I must get that'. Did the pleather leave you with sweaty arms though?

  3. Whilst I do think it looks really good on you, I agree that if it doesn't work with your wardrobe, there's no point in keeping it. Glad to hear that I'm not the only person whose budget has run out :)

  4. I liked this coat and tried it on in store but put it back.

Like you i thought it would be limiting and also I thought every youngster in the country would have one

Also, have a navy wool trench from last year that was mentioned on WIT's blog that has pleather sleeves so thought that would be my nod to the trend.

Having said that - it looks fabulous on you (as do all things - am v jealous) and you might have changed my mind on it (off to ebay some things to see if I can raise funds - if only someone would buy my LK bennett dress!)

  5. Great post, you look fab! It looks so expensive, really you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Primark and the highstreet versions. :)

  7. I like it on you too Avril, though it's a lot more casual than your usual look. I'd wear it over grey/beige/pink/coral/red - anything really!

  13. Avril, I think you should keep it! It makes you look younger, because we do the school run doesn't mean we have to look mumsie.

  14. What is a pleather? I don't really get why it's limiting ? I have a linen lined Barbour in a similar colour and it goes with everything . It's more about if you think you will get the wear out of it . If not loose it!!! I think it looks lovely on you.

  16. Oooh I hadn't seen this, was considering splashing out on a River Island one, but not sure if I'll quite pull off grunge and pregnant at the same time. You look incredible, loving the hair at the moment.

  19. Avril I love love love it! In fact mentioned it on my blog yesterday. Unless you hang out with students and 6th formers I think you'll look pretty unique in it on the school run.

Thinks it look great and it's totally up my street but if you're not comfortable in it, regardless of how great other people think it is, if you're always going to think blah, then take it back. As cheap as it is, it's £25 to spend on something else.

But I do adore it on you!
